Kurser – Allmän information

The courses held at Gränsfors Bruk in 2026 include blacksmithing courses and timber framing courses. The courses vary in technique, level of difficulty, and duration. Courses are offered from April to October.

This year, the main focus is on 2-day courses where participants learn to forge their own axe. We also offer 5-day basic courses in hot forging and the blacksmith’s tools for those who wish to deepen their skills. In addition, this year we will hold two 6-day courses in timber framing for participants interested in learning how to build houses using traditional post-and-beam techniques.

During our courses, participants work side by side with experienced instructors. Course
participants are insured during the course period. Protective equipment is available to borrow.

Upon completion of the course, participants receive a course certificate.
All our courses include full board, with meals at Restaurant Augusta in Gränsfors, and
accommodation (single room or shared double room) in course lodgings in Gränsfors.
Materials are included in the courses, as well as course literature. In the village, there is also the Axe Museum, and opportunities to try axe throwing, wood splitting, and a wood-fired sauna.

All courses include a guided tour of the Gränsfors Bruk forge and axe production. Course participants receive a 20% discount in the Gränsfors Bruk factory shop on the regular product range during the course.

The maximum number of participants per course is generally 10 people. The minimum age is 16 years. I år ligger fokus på 2-dagars kurser i att lära sig smida sin egen yxa. Men vi håller också grundkurser om 5 dagar i varmsmide och i smedens verktyg, för de som vill fördjupa sig. I år kommer vi även att hålla 2 kurser i stolpverksbyggande om 6 dagar, för de som är intresserade av att lära sig bygga hus i traditionellt stolpverk.

I våra kurser arbetar deltagarna sida vid sida med erfarna lärare. Kursdeltagare är försäkrade under kurstiden. Skyddsutrustning finns att låna. Efter genomförd kurs utdelas ett kurscertifikat. I alla våra kurser ingår helpension, mat på Restaurang Augustas i Gränsfors & boende (enkel/del i dubbelrum) i våra kursgårdar i Gränsfors.

Material ingår i våra kursen, liksom kurslitteratur. I byn finns även Yxmuseet och möjlighet att pröva på yxkastning och vedklyvning och vedeldad bastu.

Inom alla våra kurser sker en guidad visning av Gränsfors Bruks smedja och yxproduktion. Kursdeltagare erhåller 20% rabatt i Gränsfors Bruks fabriksbutik under kurstillfället på ordinarie sortiment.

Maxantal per kurs är generellt 10 personer. Minimiåldern är 16 år. Inga förkunskaper krävs för kortkurser, grundkurser och stolpverkskurser. Viss smideserfarenhet rekommenderas för kursen Smedens verktyg. Kurserna ges på svenska och på engelska beroende på kursdeltagare. Stolpverkskurser ges även på tyska. Alla kurser går att köpas som presentkort.

Sedan mer än tjugo år anordnas kurser vid Gränsfors Bruk. Kurserna sker i år i samarbete mellan Gränsfors Bruks AB och Gårdar i Nordanstig AB, som också driver Sagaliden Kursgård & Camping, B & B och annan kursverksamhet i Nordanstig. 

De kurser som ges vid Gränsfors Bruk är smideskurser, traditionella timringskurser och de nya kurserna i stolphusbygge och kolning.

Smideskurserna leds av Fredrik Thelin som är en erfaren smed och lärare. Timringskurserna leds av den skickliga timmermannen Andreas Hipf. Stolpkurserna leds av Rupert Newman respektive Johannes Kästel, experter på stolphusbyggnation.

Kurserna varierar i antal dagar och är anpassade efter kursdeltagarnas tidigare erfarenheter. Minimiåldern för samtliga kurser är 16 år.

Mat och boende ingår i kursavgiften. Smides- och timringskurserna sker normalt på svenska, men undervisning på engelska kan erbjudas och de traditionella timringskurserna kan även erbjudas på tyska. Kolkursen sker på engelska med svensktalande ”hjälplärare” på plats.

Övriga kurser som arrangeras av Gårdar i Nordanstig AB äger rum vid kursgården i Sagaliden, som ligger ca 15 min med bil från Gränsfors.

Die im Jahr 2026 bei Gränsfors Bruk angebotenen Kurse umfassen Schmiedekurse sowie Pfostenbaukurse. Die Kurse unterscheiden sich in Technik, Schwierigkeitsgrad und Dauer. Sie finden von April bis Oktober statt.

Der Schwerpunkt liegt in diesem Jahr auf zweitägigen Kursen, in denen die Teilnehmenden lernen, ihre eigene Axt zu schmieden. Darüber hinaus bieten wir fünftägige Grundkurse im Warmschmieden und zu den Werkzeugen des Schmieds an, für alle, die ihre Kenntnisse vertiefen möchten. Zusätzlich werden in diesem Jahr zwei sechstägige Kurse im Pfostenbau angeboten, für Interessierte, die lernen möchten, Häuser in traditioneller Pfostenbauweise zu errichten.

In unseren Kursen arbeiten die Teilnehmenden Seite an Seite mit erfahrenen Ausbildern. Während der Kursdauer sind die Teilnehmenden versichert. Schutzausrüstung kann ausgeliehen werden. Nach erfolgreichem Abschluss erhalten die Teilnehmenden ein Kurszertifikat.

Alle unsere Kurse beinhalten Vollpension, mit Mahlzeiten im Restaurant Augusta in Gränsfors, sowie Unterkunft (Einzelzimmer oder geteiltes Doppelzimmer) in unseren zwei großzügigen Kursunterkünften in Gränsfors. Materialien sind in den Kursen ebenso enthalten wie Kursliteratur.

Im Dorf befinden sich außerdem das Axtmuseum sowie Möglichkeiten zum Axtwerfen, Holzspalten und zur Nutzung einer holzbeheizten Sauna.

In allen Kursen ist eine geführte Besichtigung der Schmiede und der Axtproduktion von Gränsfors Bruk enthalten. Kursteilnehmende erhalten während des Kurses 20 % Rabatt im Fabrikladen von Gränsfors Bruk auf das reguläre Sortiment.
